Benefits

Old Recipe pairs a century-old recipe with modern production: a wholesome cereal made from 86 ingredients.

After endless research and improvement, we persevered to create Old Recipe, a cereal rich in 28 vitamins and minerals.

Old Recipe adds a variety of vitamins and minerals to your daily diet.

TFF08-Section2-Image03-.jpg

Carefully selected: all Old Recipe ingredients come from Xinjiang, China. Xinjiang crops are grown by natural farming methods and irrigated with Tianshan snowmelt, with no GM technology used from planting to production.

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is one whose genetic material has been altered through 'unnatural mating' or 'unnatural recombination'

(including plants, animals or microorganisms)

Old Recipe uses only non-GM ingredients, so you can drink it with greater peace of mind.

We believe safe food starts with the right ingredients. The international Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and Malaysia's Biosafety Act 2007 both regulate GMOs. Malaysia is a party to the Protocol, and we follow its precautionary principle in making Old Recipe.

Protein is an essential nutrient and an important component of body tissues such as muscles and enzymes.

The body cannot make essential amino acids on its own, so we need enough protein every day.

High-Protein

As we age, muscle mass is gradually lost, and the loss is often more noticeable the older we get.

Protein intake affects the muscles that keep our posture and support movement, especially for people aged 55 and over. Low protein intake over a long period may lead to muscle loss, weakening strength and balance.

Knowing how important protein is, we added many legume ingredients when developing Old Recipe, to add protein to your daily diet.

Benefits of Protein

TFF08-Section3-Image01-.jpg

Old Recipe is rich in fruit and vegetable ingredients, which are relatively high in fibre,

helping you feel full and aiding bowel movement; fibre helps add bulk and keep you regular.

High Fibre

Too little dietary fibre may increase the risk of constipation; eat more fruit, vegetables and whole grains every day.

Increases stool bulk

Keeps you regular

Aids digestion

9 Essential

Old Recipe contains 9 amino acids the body needs but cannot make. They do many important jobs in the body,

including:

Histidine

Converted into histamine and more; part of many body processes.

The 9 essential amino acids in Old Recipe are central to many key processes in the body:

they are the building blocks of protein, which helps build and repair body tissues.

The Malaysian Dietary Guidelines advise more vegetables, fruit and whole grains for enough fibre.

They also advise at least 3 servings of vegetables and 2 of fruit a day, as part of a balanced diet.

A balanced diet means eating in moderation and getting a variety of nutrients.

At only 120 kcal per sachet, Old Recipe can be part of a balanced diet and help with portion control.

Easier Portion Control

Old Recipe is relatively high in dietary fibre, which mixes with starches and other carbohydrates in the gut, slowing absorption and stomach emptying and so giving a strong sense of fullness.

Fibre Helps You Feel Full

Old Recipe can be part of a balanced diet; we recommend pairing it with moderate exercise.

The glycaemic index (GI) shows how fast a food raises blood sugar: high-GI foods break down fast and raise it quickly, low-GI foods break down slowly. So Old Recipe chooses low-GI ingredients first.

High GI, Fast Rise

Low GI, Slow Rise

Fewer sweets

Steadier blood sugar

Fuller for longer

These often have no obvious symptoms, so adults should get checked regularly. A low-GI diet can't replace medication; if diagnosed, follow your doctor's advice.

White sugar is mainly sucrose; cut down on added sugar in your daily diet.

Many people may already eat more sugar than recommended. The World Health Organization (WHO) found that too much sugar increases tooth decay and obesity, and obesity may raise the risk of other diseases.

Cut Added Sugar

Old Recipe: No Added Sugar

According to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (NHMS 2023), 54.4% of Malaysian adults are overweight or obese and 15.6% have diabetes. Added sugar, including the sugar in sweet drinks and desserts, deserves closer attention.

Possible health risks of too much sugar

Type 2 diabetes

Tooth decay

Obesity

Watch Sugar Substitutes Too

Some products labelled 'no added sugar' may have sugar substitutes added during production.

Sugar substitutes are sweeteners used instead of sugar; check labels to see which are added.

Research on their long-term effects is ongoing, so have them in moderation and favour natural foods.

Old Recipe cereal has no added sugar or sugar substitutes. Using Old Recipe in place of sugary drinks helps you cut down on added sugar while getting a variety of vitamins and minerals.

Are Lactose Intolerant

Lactose is a natural component of milk that most people digest easily. Without enough lactase, the small intestine cannot digest it, so it reaches the large intestine, where bacteria break it down into gas and acetic acid. The resulting discomfort, bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhoea are known as 'lactose intolerance'.

Possible symptoms of lactose intolerance

Belly pain

Nausea

Bloating

Diarrhoea

Wind

Vomiting

Symptoms vary from person to person. If your child often gets bloating, abdominal pain or diarrhoea after milk, see a doctor to find the cause.

Old Recipe cereal is lactose-free.

Enjoy it with peace of mind. If you are very sensitive to lactose, have Old Recipe instead of milk at breakfast.

Know Your Creamer

Many milk teas use creamer and may not contain real milk.

When choosing drinks, check the fat, sugar and sodium on the nutrition label as a guide to a balanced diet.

Creamer (non-dairy creamer) is an additive for flavour and a smooth texture, not a nutrient. It is mainly hydrogenated vegetable oil, corn syrup, casein, flavourings and colouring, and is found in many everyday drinks such as 3-in-1 coffee and milk tea.

Choose creamer-free drinks for peace of mind

Flavouring

Some foods list 'natural flavouring'; if allergic to soya etc., check the label first.

K₂HPO₄

Creamer stabiliser. Poor kidney function? Limit phosphorus/potassium as advised.

SSL

Sodium stearoyl lactylate, a common emulsifier for mouthfeel and texture.

Stabilisers

Some creamers are made with hydrogenated vegetable oil and may contain trans fat; too much may raise 'bad' cholesterol (LDL). Old Recipe is a cereal with no added creamer, so you can drink it with peace of mind.

Limits on

Trans fat is a type of unsaturated fat. Unlike other dietary fats, it has no health benefits and is not a nutrient the body needs. Studies show diets high in trans fat may raise the risk of coronary artery disease and hardened arteries.

The US now requires food makers to phase out artificial trans fat (partially hydrogenated oils), and the WHO calls on countries to cut artificial trans fat in food.

Too much trans fat may increase disease risk

Too much trans fat may raise 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) and lower 'good' cholesterol (HDL), and over time may raise the risk of heart disease.

Trans fatty acids may be more harmful than saturated animal fats. Old Recipe is free of trans fat, so you can drink it with peace of mind.

Zero-Cholesterol Formula

Cholesterol is often split into 'good' HDL (high-density lipoprotein) and 'bad' LDL (low-density lipoprotein). Too much LDL may let cholesterol build up on vessel walls, narrowing and hardening them.

According to the Ministry of Health Malaysia's National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS 2023), 33.3% of Malaysian adults have high cholesterol. It often has no obvious symptoms, so regular check-ups are advised at any age.

Mid
