OLD RECIPE

Most Malaysian adults
are overweight or obese

“Sub-optimal health” means often feeling unwell without a clear illness; it can occur at any age. The Ministry of Health Malaysia's National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS 2023) found that 54.4% of Malaysian adults are overweight or obese, 15.6% have diabetes and 29.2% have high blood pressure.
Sub-optimal health is closely linked to a person's physical and mental state, environment and unhealthy habits. Common causes include a poor diet, lack of exercise, irregular routines, too little sleep and high stress. So make a habit of eating a balanced diet, keeping regular hours, exercising moderately and having regular health check-ups.
To improve sub-optimal health, start by changing your daily routine: exercise more and build the habit of eating a balanced diet. Good eating habits are an important step in looking after your health.

Five-Colour Balance
The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic says “the five grains nourish”. Traditional eating balances foods of five colours, holding that balanced organs keep qi and blood flowing and the mind clear.

The five groups of natural ingredients in Old Recipe are all hand-selected. Every ingredient is grown with natural farming methods, pollution-free and with organic fertiliser.

Seed Nutrition

Seeds contain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3), a fat source worth including in a balanced diet.
Alpha-linolenic acid
Seeds contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid the body must get from food.
Balanced fat intake
Getting Omega-3 from seeds helps make the fats in your daily diet more balanced.
Seed goodness
Seeds are small but nutritious, containing protein, dietary fibre and a range of minerals.
Nut Nutrition
Unsaturated fats
Nuts contain unsaturated fatty acids and many nutrients; in moderation, they can be a healthier fat source in a balanced diet.
Zinc
Nuts contain zinc. Zinc is a nutrient essential for growth, and nuts also provide a range of minerals.
Protein
Nuts contain protein and a variety of amino acids. Protein helps build and repair body tissues.
Monounsaturated fats
Nuts are rich in monounsaturated fats; in moderation, they can replace some saturated fat.
Vegetable Nutrition
Dietary fibre
Fruit and vegetables are rich in dietary fibre. The Malaysian Dietary Guidelines advise more vegetables, fruit and whole grains daily for enough fibre.
Adds stool bulk
Dietary fibre helps increase stool bulk.
Low fat, filling
Fruit and veg are low in fat; vegetables are bulky, watery and high in fibre, helping you feel full.
Antioxidant nutrients
Fruit and vegetables contain vitamins C and E. Vitamin E helps protect the fat in body tissues from oxidation.
Legume Nutrition
Quality plant protein
Legumes are low in fat and high in protein, which helps build and repair body tissues: a key plant protein in a balanced diet.
Plant compounds
Legumes naturally contain plant compounds such as phytosterols, isoflavones and saponins, adding variety to your daily diet.
Nutrition for women
Soybeans contain soy isoflavones and quality protein, and are a common source of nutrition in many women's daily diets.
Grain Nutrition
B vitamins
Grains contain B vitamins. Vitamin B1 helps release energy from carbohydrates, and vitamin B2 helps release energy from protein, fat and carbohydrates: nutrients needed for everyday vitality.
Everyday energy
Grains are rich in carbohydrates, the body's main source of energy, helping you cope with daily activities at work and at home.
Varied fruit & veg
The Malaysian Dietary Guidelines recommend at least 3 servings of vegetables and 2 of fruit a day, for a variety of vitamins, minerals and fibre.
Traditional food wisdom
In traditional food culture, nuts are often seen as a gentle, nourishing food, suitable as part of a daily diet.
A varied diet
Combining seeds with grains, legumes, fruit, vegetables and nuts makes the nutrition in a meal more varied and balanced.

Natural
Old Recipe's ingredients come from Xinjiang in north-west China, at 38°-45°N. At the heart of the Eurasian continent, far from the sea and ringed by high mountains, the region is enclosed and covers 1.65 million km².
Xinjiang's low air pollution keeps the sky very clear, and being far from the coast with a dry climate means few clouds and plenty of sunshine. Xinjiang's largest black-soil area is in Zhaosu. Glaciers and snow cap the high mountains; as it warms, the snow slowly melts and seeps into the rock below. After years of mineralisation and filtering, the water is sweet and mineral-rich, steadily feeding the land at the foot of the mountains and creating fertile soil.
Our ingredients grow in this little-polluted, mildly alkaline sandy soil. Every ingredient is grown with natural farming methods, pollution-free and with organic fertiliser. The farm still tends its crops by hand, with no plant growth agents and no herbicides, cared for by people every step of the way.

4-Layer Foil Pack
Inner packaging matters: Old Recipe uses Australian freshness technology!
Old Recipe uses LLDPE aluminium-foil freshness technology from one of the world's top 5 suppliers. The 4-layer “full foil” pack is an excellent barrier against oxygen, moisture, bacteria and sunlight. Widely used in about 43 countries and regions worldwide, this proven technology keeps Old Recipe at its best for 12 months.
Blocks oxygen, moisture, bacteria and sunlight, keeping Old Recipe at its best for up to 12 months.

Foil

Full foil vs half foil
“Full foil” keeps products well, especially 4-layer foil, effectively blocking light, oxygen, moisture and bacteria, but it also costs the most. To cut costs, many brands use “half foil” (also called “composite foil”), which protects less well: over time it lets in light and air, and the product spoils. So some products rely on preservatives to extend their shelf life.
